Who is Maude?
Some girls play with dolls. Others play with things in the kitchen.
As far back as I can remember, I have always enjoyed playing with words. I like how they feel when I form them in my mouth, how they taste, how they sound, how they smell and how they fill my every sense. I played with words even from a young age.
Add to this love of words an insatiable curiousity about people and things and why and how they work the way that they do... and you have me! I love to learn new things all the time. I'm always exploring new ideas, new ways of doing things, and even pushing myself to do things I'm terrified of (like rockclimbing even though I am afraid of heights).
I'm blessed: my family understands my passion for expressing myself and supports me in pursuing it. In 2012, my first novel was published by Rhetorical Ratatouille. But before that, I had a long list of publishing credits in a number of amazing magazines for children and families.
Writing for children and young adults is my passion. I love to write picture books for young children (some of which have come close to acquisition but none yet) and young adult novels (one published, two in the works). When I'm not busy writing for fun, I get paid to write as a freelancer and ghostwriter.
I like freelance writing because I get to write about things that interest me, whether it's an article, ebook or press release. Ghostwriting is challenging because, not only do I have to write part of or all of a book for a client, but I have to make it sound like it's their book (I have to become the invisible writer).
The best part of being a writer is that I can satisfy my curiosity - I can explore interesting ideas and play with them all I want... and even better, I get to share those ideas with you, my readers.
